This is another piece of extremely old oak I rescued from a skip in bad condition a while back. I have managed to upcycle various parts into different projects including this board. This was originally part of some very solid shelving, it had a knot that had rotted, this was treated and filled with antique bronze tinted resin.
This is a serving board, a platter board or a charcuterie board, depending on what you like to call them. It isn't a chopping board, that would damage a beautiful old piece of oak. This is best used as a cheese board for cheese and wine evenings and other parties and gatherings to serve cheese, meats, wine, prosecco and champagne.
It is made from old oak from about the 1930's and it has a light to medium brown hue.
The finish involved a long sanding process to a high grit and a number of buffed on coats of Osmo Polyx hard wax oil (Product no. 3062). It is very easy to clean but would benefit from a yearly re waxing.
The board is 34cm x 24cm. I've included an image with a bottle of wine for scale purposes. It is a very tactile smooth board with a reasonable weight being made of oak.
This is a one of a kind unique board made from very old oak. The original shelving and small chest of drawers were approximately 80 years old. Such a shame not to rescue it all and bring some of it back to life.
This is the only board exactly like this one in the whole world.
The item is extremely carefully packaged so no damage should be possible in transit, for this reason we can't offer a gift wrapping service.
